Soleil Metals and Swiss Better Gold held a mining formalization workshop in Cusco for producers linked to the company’s supply chain, as part of ongoing technical assistance and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at strengthening formalization within the artisanal and small-scale mining sector.

Cusco, September 2026. — Advancing toward a more formal, traceable and responsible artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector requires not only the establishment of standards, but also supporting producers with the knowledge and practical tools they need to meet them.

With this objective, Soleil Metals recently held a mining formalization workshop in Cusco in collaboration with Swiss Better Gold (SBG), aimed at producers linked to its supply chain. The initiative forms part of the company’s commitments under its work with SBG and seeks to create spaces for technical assistance, dialogue and ongoing support, helping producers advance their formalization processes and pursue continuous improvement.

The workshop addressed the main challenges and opportunities facing artisanal and small-scale mining in Peru, as well as regulatory aspects related to formalization and their practical application.

Beyond the transfer of information, the workshop provided an open space for direct dialogue with producers, allowing them to raise questions, share their experiences and gain a clearer understanding of the steps required to advance their formalization processes.

The workshop is part of a responsible engagement approach that goes beyond the purchase of mineral. For Soleil Metals, building a responsible supply chain means working alongside producers to identify gaps, establish improvement plans and support their progress over time.

Under this approach, technical assistance serves as a tool to help producers progressively strengthen areas related to formalization, traceability, risk management and good operating practices.

As part of this commitment, Soleil Metals has completed Step 1 of the Swiss Better Gold process and is currently progressing toward Step 2, further strengthening its commitment to responsible gold sourcing. This process incorporates standards and tools aimed at improving the performance of different actors across the supply chain and supporting their integration into markets that demand greater levels of transparency and due diligence.

A Commitment That Will Continue Across the Country

The workshop held in Cusco is part of a series of initiatives that Soleil Metals plans to develop in different regions across Peru, in partnership with Swiss Better Gold, with the aim of continuing to provide information, technical assistance and practical tools to producers linked to its supply chain.

The goal is to foster a process of continuous improvement in which formalization translates into greater traceability, better practices and new opportunities to access formal markets.

The challenge for Peru’s mining sector does not end with achieving formalization. The next step is to ensure that producers can maintain and improve their standards, demonstrate the origin of their production and build sustainable relationships with formal markets.

Along this path, ongoing support, technical assistance and collaboration among companies, producers and specialized organizations can help close existing gaps and make the transition toward more responsible mining viable.
