Interview with Laurent Mathiot in Energiminas: Integrating artisanal miners into formal value chains


Laurent Mathiot, President and CEO of OCIM, the parent company of Soleil Metals, laid out his vision on the challenges related to the formalization of artisanal miners in Revista Energiminas.

The integration of artisanal miners into formal circuits, while indispensable, is hampered by their financial exclusion and the difficulty they have in complying with the rules. Progressive formalization, supported by adequate financing and specialized intermediary actors, is the key to reconciling responsibility with economic viability. That is precisely the meaning of the work carried out by the OCIM group and its subsidiary Soleil Metals to build a fully responsible MAPE value chain.
